With quilted maroon leather uppers and insoles mimicking a brothels’ velvet walls, these are possibly the most luxe-looking, and lush collaborations I’ve seen for a while. Sneaker Politics have been inspired by the infamous New Orleans’ Storyville Red Light District and treated the Newport Classic (NPC UK) like nothing else seen before.
Released May 20 at Sneaker Politics’s Lafayette and Baton Rouge locations, these should be online on May 21st. Click the jump for more images of this sassy-looking, luxe shoe. —BokOne Read the rest of this entry
The NPC or Newport Classic is a shoe I need to understand more: it qualifies as a true Retrobok shoe, hailing from Reeboks’ most succesful period in the 80’s, yet leaves me cold. Was it an Adidas or Puma imitation? Was it a Terrace Shoe? And which Newport – UK or US – inspired its name? These 3 Vintage releases are available now from UK based Oki-Ni. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the NPC. —BokOne
One of my favourite sneaker stores — the Aberdeen-based Hanon — have recently released another collaboration with Reebok following previous collabs such as the VCMP Alien Stomper, Pump Omni Zone and Pump 20th Anniversary. This time it’s the turn of the Newport Classic – or NPC II – which to me is a surprising but bold choice by Hanon. Featuring premium pigskin, glove leather collars and gold debossed logos, the execution of the collab seems faultless and Hanon must be applauded for the results.
These are available now in Ink Purple, and Sand colourways and include 2 pairs of contrasting laces, and a cotton dustbag. I’m looking forward to seeing the next Reebok collaboration from Hanon. ~BokOne
